Megaways Casino has been catching the spotlight over the last few years after winning Best New Slots Site in the 2021 SlotsWise Awards and Best Slots Site in the 2022 WhichBingo Awards. Our tradition at Sister Casinos is to look beyond awards and seek the truth. So, we’ll provide you with a full breakdown of the Megaways Casino sister sites and an honest Megaways Casino review. Let’s get into it!
The Megaways Casino Sister Sites
Here are the Megaways Casino sister sites: Monopoly Casino, Double Bubble Bingo, Jackpotjoy, Rainbow Riches Casino, Virgin Games.

Reviews of Megaways Casino Sister Sites
The Megaways Casino sister sites have been engaging in RTP tanking since early 2022. What follows is a presentation of the state of this RTP tanking as of late July 2023, as we must provide evidence of the results of our investigation if we’re going to leave a negative recommendation of these sites.
The Double Bubble Bingo sister site article from 2023 is a good summary of our initial findings. We’ll present our latest findings across three variable RTP slot companies on these sites. In turn, we’ll also quickly explain the basic theme of each Megaways Casino sister site so that we’re prepared to give total reviews if they roll back their terrible RTP decisions.
After that, we’ll look at Megaways Casino alternative sites so that you can play the same games you see here in a more honest and fair environment.
Monopoly Casino – The Megaways Casino Sister Sites
If you’re looking for sites like Megaways Casino, with the only difference being cosmetic, you only need to look as far as Monopoly Casino.
Monopoly Casino offers the same games as Megaways: Slots, bingo, slingo, live casino, and poker. Other than the brand-specific imagery licensed from Hasbro, Monopoly Casino is essentially a clone. That includes their poor Trustpilot rating, which only hit 1.8 out of 5 in late July 2023. If you’re wondering why, you’ll quickly notice a common theme among the recent 1-star reviews (spelling and syntax left intact):
‘When I deposit £50, and I’m playing 50p spins, I expect to be playing for more than 12 minutes; rinsed me straight away; never done that when I’ve played on other sites, no bonus, no reasonable win, lose, lose, lose.‘
Their version of Play’n Go’s Fire Joker had a January 2023 RTP of 96.15. The game’s RTP now is only 94.23%. And it isn’t just Play’n Go games. The January 2021 version of John Hunter and the Book of Tut from Pragmatic Play had a 96.5% RTP. The RTP now is 94.5%.
Regarding Red Tiger’s games, Monopoly Casino’s version of Primate King had a 92.76% RTP + 3% Jackpot contribution in late 2021. The RTP now is 90.67% + 3% Jackpot contribution. This is more systematic evidence of RTP tanking among the Megaways Casino sister sites. Because of this, we can’t endorse playing at Monopoly Casino.
If the situation does change, we’ll let you know. Until then, let’s look at the following Megaways Casino sister site.
Double Bubble Bingo – The Megaways Casino Sister Sites
Double Bubble Bingo focuses differently than the first two sites we’ve covered. But it’s strictly an advertising focus since the games are still bingo, slots, slingo, live casino, and poker.
With a Trustpilot rating of 1.7 out of 5 (as of late July 2023), the results of RTP tanking are pretty obvious when looking at the reviews (exact spelling and grammar):
‘2 deposits today. I wagered over 100 on fluffy fav and not one bonus. And before you try, ask for proof of deposits. Yes, I screenshotted before I closed my account, so you can’t get out of the thousands of bad reviews you have for unfair gameplay!‘
Some of these critiques were even pointed at their exclusive games, which have not yet recorded any RTP drop, as far as the documentation is concerned. We’ll keep an eye out for that.
For now, let’s check out some slots that we’ll use as benchmarks for the RTP tanking:
Double Bubble Bingo’s version of the Play’n Go slot Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead had an RTP of 96.21% as of April 2023. The RTP is now sitting at 94.25%. Their version of Play’n Go’s Fire Joker slot had an RTP of 96.15 in April 2023. The game’s RTP now is only 94.23%.
Double Bubble Bingo is pulling the same dirty tricks as the other Megaways Casino sister sites. Therefore, we can’t endorse playing at Double Bubble Bingo. Let’s look at the following sites to see if they differ.
Jackpotjoy – The Megaways Casino Sister Sites
Jackpotjoy is Gamesys’ oldest online property, having lasted for over 20 years in one form or another. It uses the same formula as most other Megaways Casino sister sites: Slots, slingo, live casino, poker, and bingo.
But how can the oldest of these sister sites have the worst Trustpilot rating? Sitting at just 1.5 out of 5 stars, with some of the worst-rated support by Trustpilot users, Jackpotjoy is among the lowest-rated significant real money online casinos with a UK license.
And, of course, the RTP tanking hasn’t helped their reputation (retaining the spelling and grammar of the original reviews):
‘Slots are fixed, so it’s almost impossible to win. Bonus rounds are nonexistent. And if you do manage to reach a bonus round, you’re lucky if you win a few pence.‘
While some of this might be sour grapes, we have proof that the RTP tanking has been confirmed since the Bally’s takeover.
Looking at the Jackpotjoy version of Hugo Carts by Play’n Go, you’ll see an RTP from December 2022 of 96.23%. But the RTP now is 94.24%. The Jackpotjoy version of Play’n Go’s Legacy Of Dead has an RTP from March 30, 2023, of 96.58%. But the RTP now is 94.51%.
Red Tiger’s Primate King had a 92.76% RTP + 3% Jackpot contribution in January 2022 on Jackpotjoy. The RTP now is 90.67% + 3% Jackpot contribution. While we can’t know exactly which machines those reviewers were playing, there will be more negative reviews if the casino suddenly starts taking more money from the players without telling them.
That’s why Jackpotjoy gets a non-endorsement from us. They have the chance to turn things around, and we hope they do, but they need to come clean to their community.
Rainbow Riches Casino – The Megaways Casino Sister Sites
Rainbow Riches Casino should have a storied legacy, with a theme based on some of the most popular slot machines in the world. And they have a 2.0 out of 5 Trustpilot rating, which is the best of all the Megaways Casino sister sites.
But it could be better. And we know why.
Despite offering a wide array of Poker, slingo, roulette, live casino, poker, and slots options, they have one fatal flaw: They’re being managed by a company encouraging RTP tanking across a bunch of their popular games!
For example, the Rainbow Riches version of Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead from Play’n Go recorded an RTP from March 2023 of 96.21%. Now the RTP is in the 94.25% range.
Examining the Rainbow Riches version of Hugo Carts by Play’n Go shows a February 2023 RTP of 96.23%. But now, the RTP is 94.24%.
And the Rainbow Riches version of Play’n Go’s Eye Of Atum real money slot was 96.20% RTP in February 2023. But the RTP now is 94.20%.
They’ve followed suit as far as the RTP tanking policy is concerned. Therefore we can’t endorse playing at Rainbow Riches Casino.
Virgin Games – The Megaways Casino Sister Sites
Let’s just cut to the chase here. Virgin Games offers Slots, live casinos, poker, slingo, and bingo. But they’re involved in the RTP tanking scandal and, therefore, cannot be trusted to be transparent with their community.
Their Trustpilot score is 1.5 out of 5 stars, which speaks volumes. The RTP after Bally’s takeover has dropped, which might account for this low rating.
Virgin Games’ version of Play’n Go’s Legacy Of Dead had a 96.58% RTP in February 2023. The RTP now is 94.51%.
And their version of the Play’n Go classic Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead had a 96.21% RTP in February 2023. But the RTP now is only 94.25%.
It isn’t a shock that we can’t endorse playing for real money at Virgin Games. Luckily, this is the last Megaways Casino sister site we must address.
An Honest Review Of Megaways Casino
The Gamesys-managed properties have a large array of games that they can offer their clients. On the casino side, much of that selection will be the same across the various Megaways Casino sister sites. It comes down to what games are advertised and incentivized rather than what is simply available. And Megaways has chosen to highlight slot machines with tens of thousands of ways to win.
That’s because ‘mega ways’ isn’t just the name of this casino: it’s a type of slot machine. You see, most slots have between a dozen and a hundred possible lines that you can draw across the reels representing winning combinations. These are called ‘paylines’.
Who Owns Megaways Casino?
Technically, Megawayis Casino is operated by Gamesys Operations Limited. However, in 2021, US gaming company Bally’s Corporation bought out that company. Despite this new ownership, Gamesys is still the entity that is registered with the Gambling Commission as licensee number 38905.
That means, ultimately, Megaways is owned by the Bally’s owners: Standard General. Standard General is a Wall Street hedge fund founded by Nicholas Singer and Soohyung “Soo” Kim, the firm’s CIO and managing partner.
They continued leaning towards the slots side of their portfolio when they launched Rainbow Riches in 2019. Then they fully committed to Megaways Casino, created by Gamesys in 2021, when they found Double Bubble Casino. Unlike their bingo properties, which many people feel are their bread and butter, Megaways is a more general casino experience. It follows in the spiritual footsteps of Virgin Games, which Gamesys bought in 2013 as part of its diversification.
With American ownership, direct management from the UK, and influences from Western Europe, the Megaways Casino sister sites have a lot of opportunities to lean into adopting best practices from across the globe. But did they pull it off?
Is Megaways Casino Legit?
They have a valid UK license, highly traceable ownership, and have their entire corporate structure within Five Eyes nations, which means they’re exposed to some of the heaviest international scrutinies in the world. So regarding regulatory concerns, yes – Megaways Casino is legit, even if they aren’t necessarily ‘fair.’
Why is their fairness in question? The underlying business operations are only sometimes top-shelf. They were hit with a $476 million impairment charge in 2022 due to poor business decisions during the acquisition of Bet. Works, Gamysys, and Monkey Knife Fight. This led to CEO Lee Fenton stepping down and a layoff of around 15% of their workforce.
This kind of corporate hardship and severe cutbacks can ripple effect on support quality, payout generosity, and site updates or improvement. Companies reporting severe financial setbacks are known to reduce bonus effectiveness and even change their popular machines’ RTP (Return to Player) percentages.
Was this financial downturn reflected in the quality of the Megaways Casino sister sites? Let’s find out.
Megaways slot machines combine a wider variety of possible winning paths with additional bonus reels and gameplay modes to ramp up the number of possible paylines to between 10,000 and 250,000 (generally speaking) paylines. Some even allow you to start in specific game modes by purchasing the bonus on demand.
Most of the Megaways provide a higher variance experience than the average slot. And generally speaking, their RTP will be slightly lower on average than the highest-paying traditional slots. But the action potential is out of this world.
If Megaways slot machines are the main focus of this site, what else do they have to offer? Plenty, as it turns out! Megaways Casino has a selection of traditional slots, slingo, bingo, poker, and live casino games.
Megaways Casino Reputation
We talked a bit about the massive financial issues that Bally’s Corporation had over the past couple of years. How might that impact the player experience at the Megaways Casino sister sites?
As it turns out, there was a massive impact. Their TrustPilot rating plummeted as people started to report an utter lack of wins on the site. It stabilized in the past few months but is currently at 1.7 / 5 stars as of late July 2023. Here are some example reviews that illustrate the problem (spelling and grammar left intact from the reviews):
‘This used to be a great site, but there’s something suspicious about the way this site is now. In 20 yrs, I’ve never known a site that’s impossible to make a withdrawal. You lose mostly but win now and again. Here you never win ever!! Lowest RTP for their pragmatics, PnG, for example, is probably one reason why, but it almost feels like the slots are rigged here.‘
‘This site used to be great. Now it just takes haven’t had a win now for months. Your lucky if you even get a bonus round gone right downhill. Hill very disappointing.’
‘Joined this site last week, played a few games, hit the bonus probably 15 times on the Eye of Horus, and the maximum payout was £3 most of the time, 12 -17 spins u, get anything from 40p to £3, absolutely a joke.’
So are these complaints valid? We decided to investigate last month. If you’ve read our other Sister Casino reviews on the game, then the results aren’t going to be a shock. If you still need to read about this, hold onto your hats.
Megaways Casino RTP
Our investigation showed that the Megaways Casino sister sites engage in intentional RTP tanking. What is RTP tanking? That’s when machines with a variable setting for how much money is returned to the player have their percentages turned down without a public announcement.
Sister Casinos was the first to publicly report the results of a full RTP tanking investigation, making sure that the results were archived permanently. Here are just some of the examples that we discovered: The Megaways Casino version of Play’n Go slot Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead slot machine has an RTP of 96.21% as of September 2021. The RTP is now sitting at 94.51%.
Play’n Go’s Moon Princess is also on Megaways Casino. It had an RTP of 96.5% in January 2023. But the RTP now is 94.51%. Finally, we have Megaways’ version of Legacy Of Dead, a classic Play’n Go slot machine. It had an RTP of 96,58% in January 2023. However, the RTP right now is down to 94.51%.
This means that sometime between April of 2023 and May of 2023, Megaways Casino lowered the RTP of many of their variable RTP slots, and as far as we can see, they did not announce it to the community. But was it just the Play’n Go machines? Or are other variable RTP slots also impacted?
Our prior investigation of Monopoly Casino showed that they started tanking the Pragmatic Play machines last year. Here’s an example right from Megaways Casino to close the loop:
John Hunter and the Book of Tut used to be a 96.5% RTP machine in January 2022. But by August 2022, it was a sad 94.5% RTP.
And the Red Tiger slots? They have variable RTP as well, were they impacted?
Of course. The Megaways Casino version of Primate King had a 92.76% RTP + 3% Jackpot contribution in January 2022. Now it’s only a 90.63% RTP + 3% Jackpot contribution. We can’t find any record of this RTP drop being announced to the playing community. There was no warning issued in any public forum that we could find.
Megaways Casino customer support would not answer questions about when precisely the RTP dropped, why it dropped, how this was communicated to their players, or whether or not this was a direct result of the Bally’s takeover. None of this is shocking, but it would have been a positive transparency measure if they came clean when asked about it.
For these reasons, we can’t endorse playing at Megaways Casino since there is evidence of intentional RTP tanking.
This is unfortunate because we liked the look, feel, and game selection if you look at some of our oldest reviews of the Megaways Casino sister sites. But when their public ratings plummeted, we needed to see why. It’s an incredible shame.
Why Is RTP Tanking Bad?
Online casinos print money. They’re designed to have a built-in house advantage, and we all know that. ‘The house always wins.’
But when a real money online casino drops the odds on many of their machines without warning their community, that’s completely irresponsible.
RTP tanking should never become the norm. Stealthily lowering the odds on some of the site’s most popular slots and table games is a horrible example and needs to be punished by the greater gambling community.
Whether this resulted from the Bally’s takeover, their subsequent misfortune, or the change in leadership is unknown. Letting go of 15% of the staff can’t help with transparency, support, and accountability.
Regardless of the reason, let’s move on and see how deeply impacted the other Megaways Casino sister sites are.
A Megaways Casino Alternative Site
After considering the options, we’ve found that the BetVictor sister sites are some of the best alternatives to the Megaways Casino sister sites. BetVictor is one of the most well-reviewed online casinos in the UK. They’re registered to BV Gaming Limited, using UK license 39576.
The additional feature that Betvictor has over the Megaways Casino sister sites is their sportsbook. They offer live bets, prop bets, in-play wagers, and early cash outs on international and UK sports and racing events. Their casino bonuses could be more fascinating, with most of their promotions requiring a 40x rollover. This includes their Wager £10 to Get a £50 Slot Bonus and their Bet £10 to Get £30 + 100 Free Spins offers (not available on Paypal deposits).
They accept a wider variety of payment methods than many other UK casinos. These include bank transfer (on withdrawal), credit and debit cards (available in the UK), Paypal (also known to UK players), Neteller, Skrill, Paysafe, and Trustly. Some of these options will depend on your country of origin.
BetVictor has a high Trustpilot score (since it isn’t the bonuses) in its excellent customer service. It’s funny. People trust you if you communicate well with your clients, payout when punters win, and establish transparency about your operations immediately.
As far as a Megaways Casino alternative site goes, you can do much worse than BetVictor.
Summing It All Up
You might be thinking to yourself: Why does a website like Sister Casinos do its research and post the facts and figures about these sites? Won’t they make more affiliate money if they gloss over these scandals?
Sure, in the short term. But our reputation will be worthless if we do not constantly push for better transparency in the industry and don’t honestly inform and educate our readers. We would instead report honestly on these casinos and reflect on honest experiences so that when we do find good casinos, you know you can trust us.
Besides, silent RTP tanking should not be ignored. Even if companies in such practices wish to remain mute on the subject, someone should speak for those who have become victims of their greedy tactics. By speaking the truth about the Megaways Casino sister sites, we hope that they’ll see that someone has taken notice. Their customers have taken notice. Honest reviewers have taken notice. And other industry players have taken notice.
We would instead push well-supported sites like the Betvictor sister sites, particularly in economic times like these. With inflation on the rise and average food, energy, and housing prices skyrocketing, now isn’t the time to increase corporate greed.
If you decide to patronize the Megaways Casino sister sites, please take this advice: Double-check the RTP of your favorite machines and games occasionally. When a site is willing to change the odds of a game entirely without notice, it’s up to the player to protect themselves. So be careful out there.
